Just picked up Outlaw from the vet's office this morning and introduced him to the other two greyt's in the house. That was uneventful.

So far he's discovered where the crate is and went in there for about ten seconds and was back out in search of the food dish again, where he nibbles a little here and a little there.

He's discovered how to get water spread about the kitchen floor in front of the water dish, but didn't know what to do on the wet tile floor while I was getting the towel to wipe it up and scared himself with his traction problem.

I guess the towel will be on the floor in front of the water dish for a while or until Outlaw learns not to dribble water on the floor.

Soon afterwards he found one of the favorite "napping spots."

He takes two or three stairs together (like at the back door and the little step up and step down between the kitchen and the living room) without stopping to think about it too much, but he hasn't tried to take them to the upstairs yet. All in good time, when he's ready.
Sounds like he's doing well for his first day! He was such a sweet boy when we took him off the hauler.
Just over a week into Outlaw's first experience in a home setting, he's starting to become a bit less reserved. He's a very obedient young fellow and quite docile -- never pushy, and he naturally walks on a loose leash.

While he still prefers to stay in his crate most of the time, he's beginning to get more familiar with his surroundings and has discovered all the plush toys scattered about. He's been methodically collecting these and hoarding them... his crate now looks like a toy box!

He's also discovering what is and what is not a toy. He tried to take the big sofa bottom cushion -- which is six feet long and probably weighs more than he does -- for a ride.

We think that his true personality is just starting to appear. In another week he'll be a lot more comfortable and at ease.
It's just over two weeks now that we've had Outlaw with us and he's starting to become more relaxed/at ease.

He still shows no interest in taking the steps to the upstairs.

He has discovered there's more fun to toys than just as collector's items with which to fill his crate.

He still has an issue with skittering on the kitchen tiles, but what makes it peculiar is he only has it going in one direction. When he's headed towards the back door to go outside he skitters but when he comes back inside the house he has no trouble at all.

He's getting so he can accept more affection.

It used to be he would see us paying attention to one of the other grey's and he would come running, begging to be loved on, but when you tried to give him the same kind of affection he would pull away.

He still pulls away from some kinds of affection, but he's wanting and accepting more kinds of attention than a week ago. He comes, now, more often, looking for love without having seen one of the other greys already getting attention.

Outlaw is responding well to the TLC he's been receiving.

When he first came to our house he wouldn't take anything from your hand directly, not even a slice of cheese, but he's developing enough trust to sometimes take a treat directly from your hand.

Just to look at him we can see that he's gained quite a bit of weight, not that he's getting fat by any stretch of the imagination, but when we got him he was just soooooo skinny!

Last week end we took him to the dog park for the first time and he was quite well behaved. He got along well with all of the other dogs.

The last few days he's been spending less time in his crate as well.

Little by little and day by day....
Sounds like he is adjusting well to life as a foster and hopefully we can find him a great retirement home. Thanks for opening your home to him for this adjustment period

We have had Outlaw with us for seven weeks now and though the changes we see are generally smaller compared to those in the first weeks he is still making forward progress towards the goal of obtaining all of the good house manners every owner wants to see in their dog.

Outlaw has developed enough trust to take treats, when offered, directly from our hands every time.

Guess who has not only learned how to go up the stairs, but comes up to be with us without any prompting?

You guessed it! It's Outlaw! He's still kind of slow in coming up and clumsy on the way back down the stairs, but he does it without any help from the humans.

He's also taught himself how to get up on the couch, just this past week; he's kind of silly looking with his face buried in the cushions and his butt sticking a few inches out from the edge of the couch.

The boy's personality is really starting to show. He's kind of goofy at times and reserved at others. He's friendly with other dogs and people and yet a bit shy at times too, but not insecure. He definitely has learned how to let folks know when he wants to play and when he just wants to be loved.

We're working on trying to teach him not to skitter on the kitchen floor on his way to the back door.

He shows no interest in counter cruising.

Today was proof positive he's cat safe! While out for strollee's, there was a cat on the front lawn of the house next door and he looked at it as if to say, "so what?"! He does find squirrels very interesting (fully alert with his head up in tracking mode and ears pricked), but not so interesting as to pull on the leash.

BTB It was pointed out to me by a co-worker that his photos here make him look like he's serious, stern and intense. Let me tell you, he's just a big goofy baby, who's looking to be loved!
wonderful updates! OUTLAW get off the couch!! some people might not like that My dogs would never let me sit on the couch I looked pretty silly sitting on the floor! LOL

Well, folks, it's official! Outlaw is now in his forever home and the ID tag has been ordered. He's now Frisco Kid, just Kid for short.
