Pups Without Partners

Brandon is a 2yo male, cat safe.  He's a litle on the small side but very adorable.

Got my first kiss today in the car! And a quick photo.

Brandon got his first bath today! Or at least his first post-retirement bath. I've given doggy baths before, and I've given a lot of first time baths but this was one of the easiest by far. No shaking, no struggling, no greyhound wail of death. He did jump a few times when the hose hit him but really, is that all? For the most part he stood still and let me run the water over him and shampoo him (he really liked that shampoo massage) and rinse him off. When I let him go he ran away from me but again, is that all? He liked getting towelled dry and he's almost completely dry (nice thin coat). He really handled the situation like a pro.

I know I've written nothing but good things, but he's a really nice dog. And now he's a really nice dog who smells like oatmeal :) If I had to say something bad about him, he is too curious about the garbage can. Whoever adopts him will need a covered one (or one that hides under the sink) but then that's true for almost all greys! He's also got a bit of a Lego fetish, he's grabbed a couple when my son left them lying around but a good 'no!' and he'll drop it. He's a puppy and he wants something to chew on, but that's what rawhide bones were invented for!
Well the inevitable has happened. Brandon found his forever family last night. I think they make a wonderful match. They won't be picking him up until Thursday, so he'll be able to celebrate his birthday with us. Congratulations Brandon!
Can't wait for this handsome boy to make our family complete! We have decided upon Chasin' Squirrel as a name - Chase for short. Looking forward to Thursday!
Meet Chase!

Alex was a little sad to see him go. Truthfully we all were. Hope his new family lets us know how he settles in (hint, hint).
Funny - I was planning on posting something later today. Cute picture with your son. Chase is doing very well - super mellow and easy going. His favorite thing seems to be napping but has also been requesting quite a bit of outdoor exploring this morning (got to see him run some). Last night, he did alot of following Adam and I around and checking out the house - same as this morning (Joe had a school event last night and then is working today). He slept through the night on a dog bed next to our bed. After a few nights of sleeping through, we are considering putting his bed in with Adam. Adam would LOVE this!!!! Also, how much and when were you feeding him? He seems to like to eat and dont want to overfeed him. My last 2 greyhounds were picky eaters. We put the Gathering Event on our calendar and are looking forward to it.
We fed him 1 1/2 cups of food around 9am and 7pm, but check the bag of food you are feeding there should be a guide to how much to feed him based on his weight. He should probably put on about 3 more pounds, but not much more. He's a good size just needs to fill out a bit. I've been dying to call you all morning and restraining myself. He was such a super dog, this morning with only three mouths to feed was kinda boring. We're glad he went to such a nice home, though.

I think it would be cute if he slept with Adam, although he may get so comfortable he decides to get in bed with Adam! I'm glad to hear you'll be at the Birthday Bash, we'll all be excited to see how he's doing :) Just FYI you can pre-order your tickets at http://www.pupswithoutpartners.org/picnic2010.htm
This is priceless. It has to be so hard to foster and then see them go.This pic makes me cry,we can't keep every animal, sounds like he went to a great home!!!!!Looking forward to the picnic to see the fosters and everyones greyhounds,.
Fostering can be a bittersweet experience. This was our first foster in almost two years, so getting back into the swing of it is a little hard. When the dog is with you it's so busy, you're trying to teach them how to be good pets, bringing them to events to show them off, meeting prospective families, etc. basically working hard to get them a new home. Then when it's over everything gets very quiet. That's taking some getting used to. But there's a wonderful sense of accomplishment knowing that we helped bring a greyt dog into a super family. And getting updates like on this board, or at the Birthday Bash are so exciting.
