Greyhounds In Gettysburg - April 23-25th

Just a shout out for one of the best greyhound gatherings around - Greyhounds in Gettysburg.  David and I attended two years ago and we're planning on gonig back this year.  Run by Triangle Greyhound Soceity, the event features tons of vendors, speakers and other events.  You can tour the battlefield (which is very impressive) go on a ghost tour and visit lots of local shops.  Their website is www.greyhoundsingettysburg.com and some of my photos are online at http://www.flickr.com/photos/22246367@N08/sets/72157604942005623/ .  So is anyone else planning on going this year?

I saw your comments about greyhounds in Gettysburg. We just adopted our first greyhound on January 2, 2010 and are considering going to the event. Since you have been there I was wondering whether you can take your dog everywhere with you or do you have one person stay with the dog and the other go on a tour, shop, etc. Similarly, can the dog go with you to a restaurant or do you leave your pup in the hotel or is there doggie day care available? We are new to this and have yet to travel with our dog.

The event is geared for you to bring your dog pretty much everywhere. The vendors, games, parade, fun run, blessing of the hounds, etc. are all outdoors. There is a kickoff bbq sponsored by the local Harley Davidson dealer on Friday evening and a second dinner on Saturday. Greyhounds are welcome at the seminars, ghost walks (mention you are with GiG when registering) and at the other evening events and of course on the battlefield (but not in the Museum). The stores in downtown Gettysburg will have GiG signs in the windows letting you know if dogs are welcome. The restaurants typically don't let dogs inside, but there are places with outdoor seating that do (they'll be noted in the program). The tea house who's name I can't remember is awesome. I don't know about doggie daycare, you might want to e-mail Triangle Greyhound Society if that's a big one for you, although your pup is going to be really tired and some people do leave their dogs in their hotel rooms.
